Llangollen - 20/21 May 2006

A record turnout of twelve cars made the trip from Chipping Norton on Saturday Morning; two very loud Cerbies, a couple of V8Ss, an S3, a Griff and half a dozen Chimaeras.
We lunched at our usual stop, the Peacock Inn at Boraston, near Tenbury Wells, and after a brief stop on the summit of Clee Hill for photographs, we made our way to Llangollen and our new hotel, Gales.

The rain had cleared up on arrival to allow us a few well-earned pints next to the River Dee on the terrace of the Corn Mill pub, and as usual, the wine and beer flowed throughout the evening back at our hotel's bistro and later on in the Sun.

Those who stayed until 3.30am would live to regret it...
Sunday morning loomed misty, cold and wet. Undeterred, we took the short trip from our hotel to meet up with the North Wales Sports Car Club for a drive out in the country for some lunch. Our noisy trip around Llangollen that morning seemed to anger a local councillor, who took the trouble to follow us to our rendezvous point to complain about some alleged transgression of the local bylaws, though his threats of calling the local police never materialised and we sent him on his way.

The drive would have been fabulous on a dry day; in the rain it was spectacular but a trifle dangerous, though we did our best to do justice to the Evo triangle, even with a lunch stop half way round. Our thanks go to the "Wee Man" of North Wales Sports Car Club for organising our Sunday drive, and of course to our RO, Mike, who found us a top hotel, and won the award for the dirtiest car for his troubles.
